When is the best time to post on social media?

Has Covid-19 changed everything we once knew?

The world has changed, and social media has changed with it. Not only do we have new platforms like TikTok, but we also now have a massive increase of users too. Due to the nationwide lockdowns and limited access to family, friends, and businesses, we have edited our ways of living online.

Pre-2020, there was a simple answer to the question posed above – for businesses, post during the daily commute, for restaurants, lunchtime. But now, in 2021, and with the ever-changing dynamics we see with social media, we must also edit when we post. On top of this Covid-complication, we must compete with the nature of how algorithms work too!

I have already highlighted in a blog which platforms are best to use depending on what industry you are in and what audience you are looking to target – but how do we now go about knowing when to post?

The highest engagement levels can still be found Monday to Friday in working hours; most probably because people are working from home and there are less limitations on when we can check our Facebook notifications or have a look and see what is happening on Instagram. Nevertheless, the lunchtime rush of being able to go online is still a major component to consider and feeds across all the major platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Luckily, the weekends are still a weak period for global engagement, so it gets you off the hook for needing to plan when you are trying to enjoy family or down time. The only anomaly here is for retail and consumer businesses; the weekend is when people shop, organise their returns, or want to make a complaint – so this would be the best time to also create positive content for social media users.

The trick to uncovering the actual best time for your business to post online is to do some research and look at your analytics. Gathering any information about demographics and how they spend their time online is the best place to start. Once you have that data to hand, save yourself some time by creating a content calendar, and potentially using a social media planning tool such as Buffer or Hootsuite.

Or… even better, drop me a message and with a few clicks to give us access, I can analyse all the information you need to create a more successful and targeted approach to posting online – good luck!
